Lost in Sherwood - by Nataliya Sinelshchikova

£5.25

Imagine as you walk through the woods, the mesmerising picture of the sunlight coming through the trees. Nature always was an inspiration for me, especially when it meets geometry, and Lost in Sherwood Socks is no exception.

The design features a simple stranded colourwork pattern that creates a particularly warm fabric, perfect for long walks and chilly weather. The socks are knit toe-up, using a hybrid of the German short row heel and Heel Flap and Gusset techniques for an improved fit.

Yarn: Fingering weight yarn. John Arbon Textiles Exmoor Sock Yarn (60% Exmoor Blueface / 20% Corriedale / 10% Zwartbles / 10% Nylon; 1 skein 200 m / 219 yds per 50 g / 1.75 oz).

Depending on desired foot and leg lengths you will need 1 skein of each colour for sizes 1 – 3; 1 or 2 skeins of each colour for sizes 4 – 5; 2 skeins of each colour for size 6.

Sample shown is knit in colourways Oddmedod (MC) and Mizzle (CC). 1 skein of each colour is used to knit sample in size 3 with 25 cm foot length and 15 cm leg length.

Needles: Size A: 2.25 mm / US 1 circular needle(s) or a set of double-pointed needles (DPNs) or needle size to obtain gauge listed.

Size B: 2.5 mm / US 1.5 circular needle(s) or a set of double-pointed needles (DPNs) or needle size to obtain gauge listed.

Notions: Markers; tape measure; scrap yarn or stitch holder; sock blockers (optional).

Gauge: 32 stitches & 38 rounds = 10 cm / 4” in stranded colour-work stitch pattern from Chart 1 with Size B needle(s), knitted in the round, after blocking.

32 stitches & 44 rounds = 10 cm / 4” in single-color stockinette stitch pattern with Size A needle(s), knitted in the round, after blocking.

Finished Measurements: 1 (2, 3, 4, 5, 6) [Finished sock foot circumference 17.5 (18.75, 20, 21.25, 22.5, 23.75) cm / 7 (7.5, 8, 8.5, 9, 9.5)”] Recommended to be worn with a negative ease up to 2 cm / 0.75”. The stranded colourwork patterns create a less elastic fabric, if you are between sizes or prefer a looser fit I recommend going up a size.

John Arbon Textiles & Fibre Harvest - British makers of yarns and fibres

Welcome to John Arbon Textiles' website, every page adorned with our luxury Yarns & Fibre Tops, a fine array of woolly wonders.

Nestled in the heart of North Devon, our Mill is one of only a handful of small-scale, specialist worsted processing & spinning Mills still operating in the UK. Full of refurbished machinery John has rescued over the years, with some newer additions along the way, the Mill is where we create, develop and make all our Yarn & Fibre Tops ranges. The new Mill arrival, Italian cone winder (Gino) has settled in splendidly, whilst Gillian the skeiner (one of our oldest machines at over 100 years of age) has had a re-vamp & is running smoother than ever.

Some of our ranges are... Knit by Numbers (100% organically farmed Merino in over 100 gradient shades), Exmoor Sock (our newest addition), Exmoor Zwartbles 4ply & DK (wonderfully woolly & hardwearing), Harvest Hues (bouncy with deep, rich shades), and Devonia (brimming with drape and lustre). Many of these glorious ranges are made using sheep reared and sheared on our doorstep in Devon, as it is important to John to incorporate local & rare breed fleeces wherever possible.

This last year has been a rollercoaster of woolly excitement - we passed the sock side of our business onto Kim Kearney (Arbon Socks) in order to focus wholeheartedly on producing our specialist Yarn & Tops. Our South Molton Mill folk, led enthusiastically by John, are Helena, Jack, Phil, Tash & Frankie (who's come back to the fold proper) - a fantastic team of woolly magicians. Generous amounts of backup comes from Juliet & Sonja (an invaluable new addition) based at our Lynton shop & office, which steadfast assistance from Judi & Ginette.

2019 sees our 5th Mill Open Weekend & Sale on 8th & 9th June, whilst we look forward to attending shows such as Unravel, Edinburgh Yarn Festival, Wonderwool, Woolfest, Fibre East & Yarndale.

Thanks to all our loyal customers for your warm wholehearted support & encouragement. We couldn't do it without you.

All the best indeed

John & Juliet
