This beautiful and effortless cardigan is set to be a wardrobe staple. Knit up in a bit of relaxing garter stitch, (oh the squish!) it gives the impression of a textured jacket. We love the chic design and the stripes that give it a little something extra. It’s worked in garter stitch, from the bottom-up, flat, with drop shoulder construction. Sleeves are picked up from armholes and worked top-down. The edgings are worked in 1×1 rib. Ailbíona used our trusty Devonia DK to make her cardi, and she’s put together a very useful blog post all about yarn choices for this garment, here.

Yarn

John Arbon Textiles, Devonia DK. Shown in shade ‘Devonia Cream’ and ‘Sage Sprig’.

The kit includes enough yarn to make the cardigan in the colour of your choice. The pattern is sold separately.

Ailbiona’s Inspiration…

On a visit to a small seaside town, I noticed a woman hurrying down the street. She
was wearing rather ratty jeans, paired with a striped cardigan and a prominent pearl necklace. So effortless and chic was the look, I immediately wanted to recreate it.

The cardigan took on a life of its own in my mind’s eye. I could hardly remember what the original looked like; what inspired me was the feeling it gave me. I decided to make it textured and jacket-like, yet slouchy – maximising that effect of appearing almost unintentionally pulled-together.

The result: a design that’s as easy to make as it is to wear. Knit it quickly in ‘mindless’ garter stitch, then wear it with jeans and pearls (J&P) – or any sartorial setup of your choosing!
