Kihnu Sock Kit by Aleks Byrd

We now offer handy kits of this pattern to celebrate our Mill Open Weekend Special Shades. All kits include enough yarn to make these socks, a limited edition button badge and a fab project bag to keep it all safe. Happy knitting! We do not stock the pattern ourselves, but you can buy it from Aleks’ Ravelry, here.

As part of our annual Mill Open Weekend shenanigans, we always create a limited-edition mini collection of yarn and tops to help celebrate in style. This year we’ve been even more excited than usual, as we’ve been collaborating with some rather fabulous designers! Emily Wessel (Tin Can Knits)Aleks Byrd, and Ysolda Teague-Long have each created custom shades of our beloved Yarnadelic.

We have knitted up some samples using these special shades of Yarnadelic in a few of our favourite designs by Emily, Aleks and Ysolda. The Kihnu Socks by Aleks Byrd are our favourite things to wear on our feet right now, and knit up in Aleks’ own special edition yarn, ‘Dark Star’ the pattern really does shine! A modern twist on a traditional sock style from the island it is named after, the Kihnu Socks have colourwork detailing and sock teeth pattern (‘sukahambad’) with braids and sleek ribbing down the leg to the toes and heel. Aleks is the Queen of taking traditional elements and adding them into her designs in unique and beautiful ways.
