We couldn't resist putting together a few kits in our latest yarn range, Seafarer! With Seafarer we wanted to blend depth of tone and shine with durability by combining Devonian wool with luxurious silk. This new yarn is equally suited to ethereal accessories and hardwearing garments alike – and it can also do colourwork really well! We chose the Mokosh Pullover by Teti Lutsak to showcase how Seafarer makes colourwork shine.

This gorgeous all-over colourwork sweater combines four different colours for a striking, bold effect. It's knit top-down in the round, and comes with options for additional neckline ribbing (like in our sample) and working the colourwork down the sleeve or finishing them in stockinette. We knit our sample in Murex, Lyngbakr, Kraken and Moby Dick, and have picked out three more colour combinations we think would work really well:

  • Blues: Scylla & Charybdis (C1), Namazu (C2), Neptune (C3), Moby Dick (C4)
  • Greens: Nessie (C1), Megalodon (C2), Kappa (C3), Melusine (C4)
  • Browns: Selkie (C1), Abaia (C2), Dobhar-Chu (C3), Nuggle (C4)

Pattern Info & Sizing

We’ve chosen Murex (C1), Lyngbakr (C2), Kraken (C3) and Moby Dick (C4) to make our sample of the Mokosh Pullover. Hanna Lisa has chosen the one-colour option for the short-row shaping of the neckline, and the stockinette sleeve option for the sleeves. She's decreased for the sleeves as instructed in the patterns and modified to a 3/4 length.

Sizing: The pattern is written for nine sizes 1 (2, 3, 4, 5) (6, 7, 8, 9) with a finished bust circumference of ca. 80 (94, 106, 120, 126) (134, 140, 154, 166) cm // 31.5 (37, 41.5, 47.25, 49.5) (52.75, 55, 60.75, 65.25)" incl. at least 10 cm (4") of the recommended positive ease.

Seafarer Sport: Seafarer is a luxurious blend with a hardworking, unpretentious air – equally suited to ethereal accessories and hardwearing garments. Exmoor Blueface brings its wonderful springy nature to the blend, Bluefaced Leicester lends its outstandingly soft handle, whilst a dash of rustic Devon Closewool keeps those pills at bay, and Romney gives a beautiful woolly halo. Adding a dash of Silk just enhances the blends sheen and fine drape, creating something truly unique.

Care Instructions

We recommend that our yarns are gently washed before use as we don't do any washing or conditioning after the yarns are spun and skeined. You'll be amazed by how much the fibre blooms after a soak and it will certainly help you get a more accurate feel for gauge and character of the yarn over time.

If using hand dyed yarn then this step is not necessary, but you may wish to stripe your skeins for colour consistency.

Once your piece is finished, we recommend another hand wash before wet blocking the piece to the given dimensions. This will set all your stitches and guarantee that your garment looks its best.
