Our Mill is one of only a handful of small-scale worsted spinning mills still operating in the UK. Many of our vintage machines were rescued from old, traditional mills before their closure. Keeping them going is a labour of love, but we reckon that the resulting woolly treats are well worth it.
The moorlands of the West Country have always harboured a wild magic — old, strange, close underfoot. So, for this year’s Mill Open Weekend special, we’ve left the coastline behind and ventured inland creating a companion to our existing Seafarer range. Seafarer is a luxurious blend with a hardworking, unpretentious air – equally suited to ethereal accessories and hardwearing garments. Exmoor Blueface brings its wonderful springy nature to the blend, Bluefaced Leicester lends its outstandingly soft handle, whilst a dash of rustic Devon Closewool keeps those pills at bay, and Romney gives a beautiful woolly halo. Adding a dash of Silk just enhances the blends sheen and fine drape, creating something truly unique.
Most Fridays, we’ll pop into your inbox to share updates about our yarns and fibre tops, exciting goings on at the Mill, patterns we love and other woolly bits and bobs.

Our In-House Magazine
The Annual is our very own magazine, filled to the brim with puzzles, crosswords, illustrations, articles, and – of course! – knitting and crochet patterns.
We've spent a day at the beach, explored beautiful Exmoor and our beloved 'Cottage Gardens' in our issues – and we've shared behind-the-scenes of the Mill and our yarn and fibre with you!
We also have kits available for all the patterns in our latest Annual (issue five)!
Our mill is situated in the heart of North Devon. As much as possible we use the fibre which is reared and sheared on this land, utilising the unique properties of each breed in our yarn and tops.
View all our colours in comfort
We all know how tricky it can be to pick the right colour for your project from your computer or phone screen. Our handy shade cards will allow you to view all the colours of our ranges and get a proper feel for the texture, all in the comfort of your home.
Each card contains a small sample of each available colour in the range. We can just imagine our shade cards proudly displayed on bookshelves and brightening up a crafting area – it’s not just us who love collecting shade cards, right?
Our shade cards use recycled materials, are printed locally, and are made by our Mill Folk.
Knit by Numbers is inspired by the much-loved paint-by-numbers kits of our childhoods. With a colour palette of over 100 different shades it’s created by blending pre-dyed fibre tops with specific percentages of white, resulting in six tonal gradient shades per colour. The blend of Bluefaced Leicester and Merino is next-to-the-skin soft with great stitch definition and just the right amount of shine.
