Introducing our new range, Seafarer

Devonians have long felt called to the sea—for their livelihood, for adventure or simply to connect with a power greater than themselves. Available as yarn for knitting and crochet along with tops for spinning, our newest range, Seafarer, pays homage to the tales told by these mariners of monsters and legends lurking in the briny depths.
With Seafarer we set out to create a yarn with depth of tone and shine akin to sunlight glistening on breaking waves, yet durable enough to stand up to the elements. By blending trusty, durable, Devonian wool with luxurious silk we’ve designed a range which is equally suited to ethereal accessories and hardwearing garments alike.
We have released our preview of this extra-special yarn and top, consisting of 2 natural shades of the yarn and 8 fibre tops. the remainder of the range will be available in the Autumn. We will be previewing more shades of the stunning tops (exclusively for Mill Members first, of course!) throughout the next few months!
The Blend
Seafarer is an utterly delightful new range we have thoroughly enjoyed creating. It is made from 90% British Wool (Exmoor Blueface, Bluefaced Leicester, Devon Closewool and Romney), and 10% silk. The Exmoor Blueface brings its wonderful springy nature to the blend, Bluefaced Leicester lends its outstandingly soft handle, whilst a dash of rustic Devon Closewool keeps those pills away, and Romney gives a beautiful woolly halo. Adding a dash of silk enhances the blend’s sheen and fine drape, creating something truly unique. A luxurious blend with a hardworking, unpretentious air. Yum!
How is it made?
Like all our yarns, Seafarer is worsted spun at our mill—accentuating the blend’s handle, lustre and strength. We’ve enhanced these qualities further by spinning Seafarer as a four-fold yarn, strong enough for socks and it pops brilliantly with a dash of texture or lace.

The Inspiration
We have been inspired by all things sea and adventure when creating this range, While naming the enchanting shades of Seafarer, we paid homage to monsters and gods of folktales and myths from across the globe. Think Kelpies, Sirens, Krakens and even Nessie!
We can’t wait to see this beautiful fibre spun up into gorgeous yarn, then knit and crocheted into wonderful garments and accessories. Seafarers of days gone by needed garments that would stand up to the elements, and this blend does not disappoint. Anything you create will look opulent but also be tough enough to ensure long-lasting survival of your woollens – even socks!
We have been inspired by all the drapey patterns and can imagine knitting some fabulous shawls, like Stars in the Sky, by Emily Foden (Ravelry), The Apple Blossom Shawl by Ashley Lee (from The Annual, issue four), or The Feyla Shawl by Trin-Annelie (Ravelry).
We hope you love our new Seafarer range as much as we do! Make sure to let us know what you’d make with our yarn and tops.
