Team Picks: 5 Sock Knitting Patterns We Love

I'm always on the hunt for good knitting pattern recommendations and love asking knitting friends what they've been making! After all, what's a better testament to a good pattern than if someone has knit it and really liked it?

Socks are always a good project to have on the needles – portable, good for knitting while in conversation, and toasty toes when they're finished – and so I asked the team to share their favourite sock patterns with me. Here we go:

Sonja: Sokken by Stephen West

Sonja's recommendation are the Sokken socks designed by Stephen West. They have a super fun construction (hello garter sole and short row heel) and as they're Worsted weight, they make for great gift knitting and house socks!

The Sokken pattern calls for two colours which I love as you get to pick not only one, but two yarns, yay! If you want to stick to Worsted weight, Harvest Hues Worsted would be a good option. You could also hold Devonia DK double to achieve the right gauge!

Becks: Red Vine / Blackjack by Rachel M. Blaine

Becks' pick gives you two patterns in one: Red Vine and Blackjack feature the same raised, twisting stripes. Where Blackjack uses those as the main focus point, Red Vine combines them with yarnovers and a picot edge for that extra bit of frilliness!

These would look great in any of our Exmoor Sock colours – and they also work well with variegated yarn like Scrumpy!

Donna: Roger Sock by Anne Hanson

Speaking of variegated yarn: Donna's recommendation is her go-to pattern for those beautiful hand dyed skeins – the Roger Sock by Anne Hanson!

The rib-and-garter texture travelling down the leg and top of foot keep the knitting interesting and let the yarn shine. Pair them with Scrumpy or, if you prefer no-nylon sock yarn, a skein of Devonia 4ply!

Sam: Two at a Time, Magic Loop Toe Up Socks by Hazel Cushion

Sam's pick – the Two at a Time, Magic Loop Toe Up Socks by Hazel Cushion – has made it to the top of my queue immediately: I love a good toe up sock, and have been intrigued by knitting two at a time since doing this for the first time for a baby sweater a few years ago!

These work well in any sock yarn, be it variegated or solid, so pick your favourite colour of Exmoor Sock or Devonia 4ply and get them on your needles!

Hanna Lisa: Kurrajong Socks by Verena Cohrs

I knit my pair of Kurrajong Socks just when they came out in 2016 and they're still my favourite pair in my sock drawer! There's just something about the gentle texture on the foot combined with a bit of fun lace at the leg that hits the right spot.

These work great with a contrasting heel, cuff and toe, and so I would highly recommend getting a full skein and a mini of Devonia 4ply or two skeins of Exmoor Sock in your favourite feel-good colours for a fun sock project!

I hope that one (or maybe more?) of these tickles your fancy!
