Socktober 2025 - Are you Ready for Cosy Toes?

Socktober 2025 - Are you Ready for Cosy Toes?

Eeek, only a few short weeks to go, and Socktober is upon us! Every time autumn rolls around, we not only itch to cast on all the things, we are also getting in the mood to whip out our smallest needles and get ready to knit more socks for that sock drawer. Good thing there's "Socktober" – a full month to celebrate all things sock knitting.

This year, we've planned a few delightful things for and with you, and we'd love to invite you to them!

Socktober KAL

You heard that right – we're dipping our toes into KAL ("knit-along") waters again! We're starting on October 1 with a proper cast-on party over on Zoom, and the KAL ends on October 29 with a cheerful closing ceremony.

All you need to do to participate in the KAL is knit some socks out of our yarn during October and sign up for our KAL Slack channel!

Slack is a really neat app that works on mobile and desktop (and in a browser) – it's kind of like chat rooms! – and we'll have a couple of different channels available on it: In "Chatter", we can share progress pictures, ask questions and meet one another, and in "Finished Objects", we have a place to share photos of our finished projects.

In addition to these, we'll also have three Zoom calls throughout the KAL and warmly invite you to join them:

  • Zoom Kick-Off Party: Oct 1, 6.30 - 7.30pm BST

  • Mid-Way Craft & Natter: Oct 15, 6.30 - 8pm BST

  • Closing Ceremony: Oct 29, 6.30 - 7.30pm GMT

For all three Zoom calls we'll be using this Zoom link.

Rules

The main rule is that we want to have fun knitting socks! So, really, there are no hard and fast rules other than "knit some socks out of our yarn in October". WIPs are allowed as are half-FOs (say, half a pair of socks ;)). You can of course also knit socks from hand spun and participate, as long as it's been spun from some of our fibre!

We will be drawing prizes at the end of the KAL to announce them during the Closing Ceremony. To enter the FO prize drawing, please post a photo of your Finished Object(s) in the FO channel on Slack by noon, October 29. We'll also draw prizes from the Chatter thread!

We can't wait to host this for you and hope you'll join us! Click through to our Slack channel today and get yourself set up for the KAL - and join us for the cast-on party on October 1!

"Scrumpy" – Hand Dyed Sock Yarn by Felt Fusion

One of our favourite indie dyers is back with a special custom colourway she's developed to celebrate Socktober with us! Shadow of Felt Fusion has created a concoction of autumn's glorious colours all in one skein with "Scrumpy". 🧶Golden yellows flow into foresty greens and bright-to-rusty reds – the perfect celebration of this favourite time of the year for us!

Shadow's woolly journey started in 2007, when she needed a creative outlet after being at home for several years, bringing up her 3 boys. After discovering the wonders of wool with woolly nappy covers, she taught herself to knit with the help of a book and knitting friends. The natural progession was then to start dyeing yarn in 2013, and has been steadily developing her dye techniques and bases ever since.

"Scrumpy" is available now – and it's the perfect fit for the Autumnalia Socks by Virginia Sattler-Reimer!

Autumnalia Socks by Virginia Sattler-Reimer

Meet the Autumnalia Socks by the wonderful Virginia Sattler-Reimer - our special pattern for Socktober this year! Virginia created these extra cosy socks with lots of texture so they'll keep our feet toasty warm during autumn (and winter!). The heel flap and gusset make for a wonderful fit, and the deep rib at the cuff will keep them snug against your legs.
Virginia knit up two samples, one in our Socktober 2025 yarn - the multicoloured "Scrumpy", dyed on Exmoor Sock by Felt Fusion -, and one in Exmoor Sock's Quick Beam, the rusty orange. We love both and can't wait to see which colour(s) you pick!

I will be casting on a pair for sure for our KAL - and I'd love for you to join me!
