The Walled Garden Vest is designed by Sonja Bargielowska for our Annual (issue four). Please note that the kit does not include the pattern. You can purchase the Annual (issue four) that includes the pattern here.

The playful Walled Garden Vest by Sonja Bargielowska is inspired by mossy paving stones and the patina of old brickwork. With its log-cabin construction, you can easily add as much or as little colour as you like.

Starting at the centre and working out in a modular fashion, this vest knits up quickly in squishy garter stitch using our Harvest Hues Worsted or Appledore Aran. Finished with a split hem and a folded rib at the neck for a little extra cosiness, its the perfect transitional layer whatever the weather.

Version 1 (V1) includes one main colour and five contrasting colours; Version 2 (V2) one main and one contrasting colour.

Yarn Characteristics

Harvest Hues Worsted: With Harvest Hues, we were inspired by the subtle tones of autumn in Devon. Blending the saturated tones of our dyed Falklands Merino and lustrous Bluefaced Leicester with the naturally dark fibre of local Zwartbles, we’ve achieved a range of complex shades with incredible depth of colour. The yarn is woolly and full-bodied, balancing softness, bounce and shine.

33% Bluefaced Leicester / 33% Falklands Merino / 33% Zwartbles

200m per 100g | 50m per 25g mini

Appledore Aran: Sourced from right here in the West Country, our Appledore blend encompasses our ethos of making local, uniquely heathered yarns. Packed full of woolly bounce and a smattering of lustre, it’s the perfect canvas for a range of playful shades. It’s our most durable yarn – great for hardwearing garments and accessories.

Care Instructions

We recommend that our yarns are gently washed before use as we don’t do any washing or conditioning after the yarns are spun and skeined. You’ll be amazed by how much the fibre blooms after a soak and it will certainly help you get a more accurate feel for gauge and character of the yarn over time.

Once your piece is finished, we recommend another hand wash before wet blocking the piece to the given dimensions. This will set all your stitches and guarantee that your garment looks its best.
