The Plymouth Gin Hat pattern is designed by Thea Colman. Please note that the kit does not include the pattern. You can purchase the pattern via Ravelry and her website.

In our humble opinion, you can’t really beat a cabled hat pattern. Not only does it keep you warm through these colder months, but Thea Colman’s Plymouth Gin hat keeps you looking stylish too!

The open ovals of Thea’s cables feature elegant lines and classic twists within their centres, but it’s the way each lines up against the next oval that makes this hat so striking. The bold vertical lines allow for a nice contrast and create little diamonds as they come and go.

Thea has made her sample using Yarnadelic Worsted, but the Plymouth Gin Hat also works wonderfully in Appledore Aran.

Yarn Characteristics

Yarnadelic Worsted: We love a good bop here at John Arbon Textiles, which got us thinking that it would be wonderful to create a yarn range inspired by our eclectic music tastes – from punk to funk! And so, the Yarnadelic palette was born during an evening of good vibes and chilled wine, with each shade conjuring the sentiment of a favourite song. This groovy range of heathered shades is created from 100% Falklands Corriedale fibre, which is the perfect balance of delightful softness, bounce and slight lustre.

Appledore Aran: Sourced from right here in the West Country, our Appledore blend encompasses our ethos of making local, uniquely heathered yarns. Packed full of woolly bounce and a smattering of lustre, it’s the perfect canvas for a range of playful shades. It’s our most durable yarn – great for hardwearing garments and accessories.

Care Instructions

We recommend that our yarns are gently washed before use as we don’t do any washing or conditioning after the yarns are spun and skeined. You’ll be amazed by how much the fibre blooms after a soak and it will certainly help you get a more accurate feel for gauge and character of the yarn over time.

Once your piece is finished, we recommend another hand wash before wet blocking the piece to the given dimensions. This will set all your stitches and guarantee that your garment looks its best.
