Meet our Mineralogy Yarn Kits

Remember earlier this year, when we made you fine folks honorary Mill Folk and you helped us design our Mill Open Weekend special, Mineralogy? Well, the time is almost upon us – on the 5th July, Mineralogy will launch online and with select stockists! It will be available in both yarn and tops, and we couldn’t resist putting together a few yarn kits for six patterns that we think are stunners in the Mineralogy yarn.
Each kit includes enough yarn to knit the size you choose, a limited edition button badge and a fab project bag to keep your WIP safe. The kits will go live on the 5th July, and we thought it’d be good to share them with you already now so that you can get project planning and cast-on dreaming!
Before we dive into the kits, a short recap of the most crucial Mineralogy specs: We’ve blended 75% Corriedale with 17% Grey Exmoor Blueface and 8% Romney, and spun it up into a classic 4ply (400m per 100g). The Mineralogy yarn shows off textured stitch patterns beautifully and is also really well suited for colorwork!
Paul Klee Sweater by Midori Hirose
What better way to start our kit roundup than with the one kit that includes all seven fabulous Mineralogy shades? Midori Hirose’s Paul Klee Sweater (Ravelry) has quickly become a classic with knitters all around the world as it provides endless possibilities for playing with color. We paired Alabaster, the undyed shade of Mineralogy, with the six dyed colorways – and cor blimey, isn’t the result a stunner? If you are looking for a little taste of all the Mineralogy yarn shades, this kit would be a great choice!
In addition to our sample colors, we’ve put together two other kits with different main colors:
Left: Main Colour Azurite Adventure | Right: Main Colour Bog Oak
Geology Shawl by Very Busy Monkey Designs
Very Busy Monkey Designs’ Geology Shawl (Ravelry) is the perfect example of Mineralogy’s talent to show off textured stitch patterns. With a new stitch pattern every few rows, inspired by different strata of the earth, it’s also extremely fun to knit! Donna chose Azurite Adventure for her sample, a glorious, glowing blue. With its compact size, the Geology Shawl is a wonderful companion for slightly chilly morning walks or a stiff breeze at the beach.
Saltings Sweater by Sarah Solomon
All-over cables? Check. Modified drop shoulder for a fabulous fit? Check. A stunner of a yarn to make it all sing? Check. The Saltings Sweater by Sarah Solomon (Ravelry | Website) is an absolute beauty, and we just love it knit up in Carnelian, the Mineralogy shade Sonja picked for her sample. She modified the pattern slightly to include a folded crew neckline and a split hem, and while we also love the original mock turtleneck, there’s something extra cosy about her version!
Geo Top by Soohyun Nam
As the weather is getting warmer, we’re slowly tucking away our big knits, reaching for shorter sleeves, so we just needed a kit with a top for those sunnier days! Meet Soohyun Nam’s Geo Top (Ravelry | Website) which pairs a gently textured yoke with a soothing stockinette body. Donna chose Moss Agate for her version which sings both in the texture and stockinette. Plus: Soohyun has included three different sleeve versions in the pattern (short, mid – like shown here, and long) so you can whip up a knit that works for your style (and temperature) preference!
Strata Sweater by Hannah Singleton
One thing we all love about the Mineralogy shades you fine folks picked is how well they all work together. The Strata Sweater by Hannah Singleton (Ravelry) uses three shades for gorgeous color-blocked stripes, resulting in a super wearable wardrobe staple. We chose summer blues and greens for our sample – Moss Agate, Malachite Magic, and Azurite Adventure –, but will have three other color combinations available as well:
Left: Blue Slate, Alabaster, Azurite Adventure | Middle: Carnelian, Alabaster, Bog Oak | Right: Moss Agate, Bog Oak, Alabaster
Montana Mountain Cowl by Andrea Mowry
Mosaic knitting is a fantastic way to dip your toes into the waters of our new Mineralogy yarn! Andrea Mowry’s Montana Mountain Cowl (Ravelry | Website) uses two different shades, and we picked Blue Slate and Malachite Magic for our sample. The slip stitch pattern is easy to memorize, and the size is perfect to keep your neck warm when it gets a little chilly!
We’ll also have three other color combinations available in our kits:
Left: Alabaster and Carnelian | Middle: Azurite Adventure and Blue Slate | Right: Bog Oak and Moss Agate
We can’t wait to share these kits with you come the 5th July! Which one is your favorite? We’d love to know in the comments below!
