Making a Yarn with Fruity Knitting!

We're so thrilled to share the first glimpses of a really exciting project with the incomparable Fruity Knitting team with you today! Andrea and Madeleine have long loved John Arbon yarns, especially the unique colour blends, and they’re now working together with us to create their very own small range of custom yarns - how amazing is that?

A couple weeks ago, Andrea visited the mill, where she spent the day with Sonja and Laura experimenting with different fibre blends. Together, they carefully weighed and mixed small percentages of fibres in various colours until they achieved the exact colour recipes Andrea had envisioned.

In their podcast Episode 158, Andrea shares more about her experience visiting the mill and a two-part interview with Sonja and Helena. In the first half, Sonja and Helena talk about their backgrounds, their roles in the mill, and give an inside look at the vintage machinery and their own yarn ranges. In the second, they share how they design custom yarns for both designers and small-scale sheep farmers, using the new Fruity Knitting yarn project as an example.

We absolutely love working on this project with Andrea and Madeleine and can't wait to share more of it with you! In the meantime, you can check out Episode 158 on Youtube and read through their excellent shownotes.

I'll leave you with a few glimpses at the colour development process and test spin:
