We now offer handy kits for all our patterns in The Annual (issue five)! These are the kits fo the super cute Benjamine, the Watervole, and her family – their favourite pastimes include sunning themselves at the beach, resisting the rain in their incredibly sweet raincoats, and frolicking about the Devon coast.
All kits include enough yarn and stuffing to make the respective watervole and its garments, along with a limited edition button badge and a fab project bag to keep it all safe. Please be aware that the kit does not include a copy of The Annual – you can get your copy here. Happy knitting!
Benjamine the Watervole is a little critter who lives the most beautiful summer by the seaside, quietly sailing on the waves, trotting in the mist, nestling in a little beach hut or sleeping under the stars. She is a joyful little vole who loves to share her adventures with her family, Little Mo and Grand-Ma.
Benjamine and her little brother Mo are worked up in 4ply yarn – Knit by Numbers 4ply and Exmoor Sock – while Grand-Ma is knitted in Harvest Hues Worsted, Knit by Numbers DK, and Devon Naturals DK. You can get a kit for each one of them – or one with the entire family included!
The kit does not include buttons, embroidery thread and safety eyes.

Knit by Numbers 4ply:
Knit by Numbers is inspired by the much-loved paint-by-numbers kits of our childhoods. With a colour palette of over 100 different shades it’s created by blending pre-dyed fibre tops with specific percentages of white, resulting in six tonal gradient shades per colour. The blend of Bluefaced Leicester and Merino is next-to-the-skin soft with great stitch definition and just the right amount of shine.

Exmoor Sock:
Exmoor Sock not only celebrates Exmoor, but is designed to be perfect for socks, whilst still having the versatility to suit garments and accessories that relish a hard-wearing, machine-washable yarn. It’s durable and bouncy, with great stitch definition and holds up incredibly well. We offer our Exmoor Sock in 50g skeins so that 3 skeins will make you two pairs of socks in most sizes!
70% British wool, 20% Falklands wool, 10% Nylon.

Devon Naturals DK:
Our Devon Naturals range is a curated selection of our local wool in undyed gradient shades. We offer two blends: One consisting of Exmoor Blueface and Zwartbles, and the second one of Grey Exmoor Blueface and Romney. The Zwartbles/Exmoor Blueface is super bouncy and robust, and the Grey Exmoor Blueface/Romney is softer and more lustrous.

Harvest Hues Worsted:
With Harvest Hues, we were inspired by the subtle tones of autumn in Devon. Blending the saturated tones of our dyed Falklands Merino and lustrous Bluefaced Leicester with the naturally dark fibre of local Zwartbles, we’ve achieved a range of complex shades with incredible depth of colour. The yarn is woolly and full-bodied, balancing softness, bounce and shine.

Care Instructions
Care Instructions
We recommend that our yarns are gently washed before use as we don’t do any washing or conditioning after the yarns are spun and skeined. You’ll be amazed by how much the fibre blooms after a soak and it will certainly help you get a more accurate feel for gauge and character of the yarn over time.
Once your piece is finished, we recommend another hand wash before wet blocking the piece to the given dimensions. This will set all your stitches and guarantee that your garment looks its best.

Local Fibre
Our mill is situated in the heart of North Devon. As much as possible we use the fibre which is reared and sheared on this land, utilising the unique properties of each breed in our yarn and tops.

Unique Yarn & Tops
The hours of work and skill that go into producing one of our yarn and tops ranges is reflected in the dedication of a knitter, spinner or crocheter during the intricate journey from beginning to finished garment – both are a harmony of tradition and creativity.

Vintage Machines
Our Mill is one of only a handful of small-scale worsted spinning mills still operating in the UK. Many of our vintage machines were rescued from old, traditional mills before their closure. Keeping them going is a labour of love, but we reckon that the resulting woolly treats are well worth it!
