We now offer handy kits for all our patterns in The Annual (issue five)! These are the joyful Brixham Mitts by Fay Dashper-Hughes, a nod to glorious seaside walks in the form of a cosy crochet mitts pattern.

All kits include enough yarn to crochet the mitts, along with a limited edition button badge and a fab project bag to keep it all safe. Please be aware that the kit does not include a copy of The Annual – you can get your copy here. Happy knitting!

Fay Dashper-Hughes’ Brixham Mitts are inspired by the waves gently lapping at the shore. They come in two versions – fingerless and full mitts – and invite you to choose your favourite soothing blues or introduce a pop of bright colour!

This pattern is designed for 4ply / Fingering yarns – we couldn’t resist playing with different colour schemes in our Devonia 4ply, Exmoor Sock, Harvest Hues 4ply and Devon Naturals 4ply.

Yarn Characteristics

Harvest Hues 4ply: With Harvest Hues, we were inspired by the subtle tones of autumn in Devon. Blending the saturated tones of our dyed Falklands Merino and lustrous Bluefaced Leicester with the naturally dark fibre of local Zwartbles, we’ve achieved a range of complex shades with incredible depth of colour. The yarn is woolly and full-bodied, balancing softness, bounce and shine.

33% Bluefaced Leicester / 33% Falklands Merino / 33% Zwartbles

400m per 100g | 100m per 25g mini

Devonia 4ply: Devonia is rather special to us as it’s the first blend we created using exclusively local West Country fibre. It combines Exmoor Blueface, Bluefaced Leicester and Romney, resulting in a springy yarn with a soft handle and fine drape.

50% Exmoor Blueface / 30% Bluefaced Leicester / 20% Romney

388m per 100g | 97m per 25g mini

Exmoor Sock: Exmoor Sock not only celebrates Exmoor, but is designed to be perfect for socks, whilst still having the versatility to suit garments and accessories that relish a hard-wearing, machine-washable yarn. It’s durable and bouncy, with great stitch definition and holds up incredibly well. We offer our Exmoor Sock in 50g skeins so that 3 skeins will make you two pairs of socks in most sizes!

70% British wool, 20% Falklands wool, 10% Nylon.

200m per 50g

Devon Naturals 4ply: Our Devon Naturals range is a curated selection of our local wool in undyed gradient shades. We offer two blends: One consisting of Exmoor Blueface and Zwartbles, and the second one of Grey Exmoor Blueface and Romney. The Zwartbles/Exmoor Blueface is super bouncy and robust, and the Grey Exmoor Blueface/Romney is softer and more lustrous.

Individual Blends (Zwartbles / Exmoor Blueface or Grey Exmoor Blueface / Romney)

400m per 100g | 100m per 25g minis

Care Instructions

We recommend that our yarns are gently washed before use as we don’t do any washing or conditioning after the yarns are spun and skeined. You’ll be amazed by how much the fibre blooms after a soak and it will certainly help you get a more accurate feel for gauge and character of the yarn over time.

Once your piece is finished, we recommend another hand wash before wet blocking the piece to the given dimensions. This will set all your stitches and guarantee that your garment looks its best.
