We couldn't resist putting together a few kits in our latest yarn range, Seafarer! With Seafarer we wanted to blend depth of tone and shine with durability by combining Devonian wool with luxurious silk. This new yarn is equally suited to ethereal accessories and hardwearing garments alike, which makes it perfect for Gretha Mensen's Dunas Shawl!
This triangular shawl features different textured stitch patterns, reminiscent of the Spanish dunes, beaches and boardwalks that inspired that design. We used Siren for our sample, and we kind of want one in every colour of Seafarer now!

We’ve chosen ‘Siren’ to make our sample of the Dunas Shawl. The yarn shows off this fabulous mix of textured stitches wonderfully, and we love the waves of the lace edge.

Seafarer Sport:
Seafarer is a luxurious blend with a hardworking, unpretentious air – equally suited to ethereal accessories and hardwearing garments. Exmoor Blueface brings its wonderful springy nature to the blend, Bluefaced Leicester lends its outstandingly soft handle, whilst a dash of rustic Devon Closewool keeps those pills at bay, and Romney gives a beautiful woolly halo. Adding a dash of Silk just enhances the blends sheen and fine drape, creating something truly unique.
90% British Wool (Exmoor Blueface, Bluefaced Leicester, Devon Closewool and Romney) / 10% Mulberry Silk

We recommend that our yarns are gently washed before use as we don't do any washing or conditioning after the yarns are spun and skeined. You'll be amazed by how much the fibre blooms after a soak and it will certainly help you get a more accurate feel for gauge and character of the yarn over time.
If using hand dyed yarn then this step is not necessary, but you may wish to stripe your skeins for colour consistency.
Once your piece is finished, we recommend another hand wash before wet blocking the piece to the given dimensions. This will set all your stitches and guarantee that your garment looks its best.

Local Fibre
Our mill is situated in the heart of North Devon. As much as possible we use the fibre which is reared and sheared on this land, utilising the unique properties of each breed in our yarn and tops.
Unique Yarn & Tops
The hours of work and skill that go into producing one of our yarn and tops ranges is reflected in the dedication of a knitter, spinner or crocheter during the intricate journey from beginning to finished garment – both are a harmony of tradition and creativity.
Vintage Machines
Our Mill is one of only a handful of small-scale worsted spinning mills still operating in the UK. Many of our vintage machines were rescued from old, traditional mills before their closure. Keeping them going is a labour of love, but we reckon that the resulting woolly treats are well worth it!
