The Duvernet Sweater is designed by Aleks Byrd for her latest book "Kindred Knits". Please note that the kit does not include the pattern. You can purchase the book that includes the pattern here.

Aleks' latest book "Kindred Knits" is a beautiful collection of knitwear designs inspired by her family's heirloom crafts and in particular her Estonian grandmother's sketchbooks. We are thrilled that she chose our yarn for some of the patterns in it, and couldn't resist putting together kits for them!

The Duvernet Sweater is named after Duvernet Avenue: the street Aleks’ mom grew up on in Toronto, Canada. Their house had shingling on the outside in varying warm brown tones that created a textured pattern — much like the fabric of the Duvernet sweater. This drop-shoulder sweater is worked seamlessly from the top down, with an all-over textured pattern combining basketweave with lines of eyelet lace.

Aleks' used Yarnadelic Worsted for her sample, a wonderfully round yarn that shows off the different textures of the design really well. Her version is knit in Dark Star, the colourway she created for us a little while back. We're bringing it back in this kit!

If you'd like to purchase Aleks' latest book, you can place a preorder for it now! The official publication date is October 17.

Yarn Characteristics

Yarnadelic Worsted: We love a good bop here at John Arbon Textiles, which got us thinking that it would be wonderful to create a yarn range inspired by our eclectic music tastes – from punk to funk! And so, the Yarnadelic palette was born during an evening of good vibes and chilled wine, with each shade conjuring the sentiment of a favourite song. This groovy range of heathered shades is created from 100% Falklands Corriedale fibre, which is the perfect balance of delightful softness, bounce and slight lustre.

Care Instructions

We recommend that our yarns are gently washed before use as we don’t do any washing or conditioning after the yarns are spun and skeined. You’ll be amazed by how much the fibre blooms after a soak and it will certainly help you get a more accurate feel for gauge and character of the yarn over time.

Once your piece is finished, we recommend another hand wash before wet blocking the piece to the given dimensions. This will set all your stitches and guarantee that your garment looks its best.
