These super-sweet Christmas gnomes make for the most perfect festive project. We just love a colourwork sock – satisfying, quick and surprisingly simple, but add a jolly seasonal character and we’re sold. Perfect!

Charlotte Stone is the Queen of colourwork socks, and we’re thrilled that she has decided to use our Exmoor Sock yarn again in one of her beautiful patterns. We have had the most fun coming up with some colour combos for you, including a very Christmasy set of shades!

Pattern Info & Sizing

The Gnome Place Like Home Socks are designed by Charlotte of Stone Knits. Please note that the kit does not include the pattern. You can purchase the pattern via Ravelry and on Etsy. They are also included in Charlotte's book "Joyful Colorwork Socks".

These socks are knit from the top down. They have a cute Christmas gnome motif that repeats from the top of the leg down through the foot. There is an option to add a bobble stitch nose. While working the gnomes’ faces, there are three rounds using three colors. This can be achieved by using three-color, colorwork knitting or with duplicate stitching. The socks start with a ribbed cuff and feature a short row heel. Stitches are decreased for the toe and then grafted together.

Care Instructions

We recommend that our yarns are gently washed before use as we don't do any washing or conditioning after the yarns are spun and skeined. You'll be amazed by how much the fibre blooms after a soak and it will certainly help you get a more accurate feel for gauge and character of the yarn over time.

If using hand dyed yarn then this step is not necessary, but you may wish to stripe your skeins for colour consistency.

Once your piece is finished, we recommend another hand wash before wet blocking the piece to the given dimensions. This will set all your stitches and guarantee that your garment looks its best.
