If you ask us, there’s no better way to spend your time, than knitting a beautiful item that you know you’ll wear and love year after year. Here at the Mill, we have all been swooning over the beautiful Midland Cardigan by Laura of Penrose Knits, so we knew we needed to make kits for this oh-so-versatile little piece.

Laura’s sample, knit in our Appledore DK 'Golden Knob' is such a joyful way to jolly up your wardrobe. The clean lines and simple, but elegant construction make it a year-round staple that will be just as easy to throw over a summer dress or shorts on a chilly spring evening, as it is to layer over cosy winter basics.

Laura has such a flair for coming up with clever construction techniques, and explaining them in a way we can all understand and enjoy, The Midland Cardigan is no exception, and we think it’s an absolute winner!

Care Instructions

We recommend that our yarns are gently washed before use as we don’t do any washing or conditioning after the yarns are spun and skeined. You’ll be amazed by how much the fibre blooms after a soak and it will certainly help you get a more accurate feel for gauge and character of the yarn over time.

Once your piece is finished, we recommend another hand wash before wet blocking the piece to the given dimensions. This will set all your stitches and guarantee that your garment looks its best.
