Mill Tours - Saturday 6th June
These tours are part of our Mill Open Weekend celebrations.
During our Mill Open Weekend we open our big roller shutter doors and invite you all inside! On a Mill Tour you’ll be able to learn about our vintage wool processing and spinning machinery. Our trusty Mill Folk will be on hand to explain things as you travel through the mill, providing you with a glimpse of how our yarn and tops are made. Each tour offers the opportunity to wander around the Mill, soak everything up, and ask as many questions as you fancy. We like to think that all this special attention helps those venerable old machines run more smoothly throughout the rest of the year!
This year’s Mill Open Weekend event will be held in the beautiful eighteenth-century function rooms in the South Molton Town Hall. Because of this, we have organised a minibus to collect you from just outside the Town Hall, take you to the mill, and drop you off again after the tour. The tour time on your ticket is the time that the bus will leave. All you will need to do is check in at the info desk in the Town Hall 15 minutes beforehand and someone will be on hand to provide instructions on exactly how and where to catch your minibus to the Mill.
Please bear in mind that although we are happy for children to come along to the Mill Open Weekend, due to health and safety restrictions children under 11 cannot go on a tour, and any children between 11 and 16 must be accompanied by a responsible adult over 18. We also love dogs, and they are welcome in the Town Hall, but unable to go round the Mill.
Accessibility: If, for accessibility reasons, you wish to book a parking space at the mill rather than use the minibus, please contact us (via email to shop@jarbon.com or phone +44 (0)1769 579861) and we can reserve a space for you. Spaces are very limited so this option is only available to those unable to take the minibus. Also, bear in mind that the tour is a standing tour for 45 minutes including stairs for the second half of the tour. There is limited seating that can be provided safely while demonstrating machines so please just let us know if this is a concern for you. We are more than happy to discuss your needs / any questions you may have. Just get in touch.

Local Fibre
Our mill is situated in the heart of North Devon. As much as possible we use the fibre which is reared and sheared on this land, utilising the unique properties of each breed in our yarn and tops.
Unique Yarn & Tops
The hours of work and skill that go into producing one of our yarn and tops ranges is reflected in the dedication of a knitter, spinner or crocheter during the intricate journey from beginning to finished garment – both are a harmony of tradition and creativity.
Vintage Machines
Our Mill is one of only a handful of small-scale worsted spinning mills still operating in the UK. Many of our vintage machines were rescued from old, traditional mills before their closure. Keeping them going is a labour of love, but we reckon that the resulting woolly treats are well worth it!
