Aleks' latest book "Kindred Knits" is a beautiful collection of knitwear designs inspired by her family's heirloom crafts and in particular her Estonian grandmother's sketchbooks. We are thrilled that she chose our yarn for some of the patterns in it, and couldn't resist putting together kits for them!

The Orav Cardigan is inspired by Aleks’ grandfathers — one from Estonia and one from the USA. As a heritage grandfather-style cardigan, it is a tribute to the two special men in her life. This textured cardigan is knitted seamlessly in the round from the bottom up using steeking. The body is worked in three textured stitch patterns: there is a panel of Double Seed Stitch on each side, and the front and back are worked in two twisted stitch patterns. The sleeves are also worked in a Double Seed Stitch.

Aleks' used Yarnadelic Sport for her sample, a wonderfully round yarn that shows off the different textures of the design really well. Her version is knit in Badi Da.

Recommended ease: 2-4” / 5-10 cm of positive ease.

Gauge: 28 sts x 40 rnds = 4” / 10 cm (in seed stitch, in the round, after blocking, on larger needle or needle size to obtain gauge)

14 sts x 22 rnds = 1.5 x 2.5” / 4 x 6.5 cm (1 acorn chart repeat, knit in the round, after blocking, on larger needle or needle size to obtain gauge)

This groovy range of heathered shades is created from 100% Falklands Corriedale fibre, which is the perfect balance of delightful softness, bounce and slight lustre.

Care Instructions

We recommend that our yarns are gently washed before use as we don’t do any washing or conditioning after the yarns are spun and skeined. You’ll be amazed by how much the fibre blooms after a soak and it will certainly help you get a more accurate feel for gauge and character of the yarn over time.

Once your piece is finished, we recommend another hand wash before wet blocking the piece to the given dimensions. This will set all your stitches and guarantee that your garment looks its best.
