We love everything our friend Sophie, The Knit Purl Girl, designs – classic, timeless wardrobe staples with tons of options to make them your own! We were thrilled to bits that she decided to use our Harvest Hues Worsted for her Orla Sweater design, a gorgeous yoke sweater with two different options for the colourwork.

The Orla Sweater is knit from the top down and, in classic Sophie style, features not only circular yoke increases, but also raglan shaping at the bottom part of the yoke for an improved fit. The body and sleeves are worked in stockinette with the option of applying the colourwork motif you've choosen at the cuffs as well.

Sophie knit two samples in our Harvest Hues Worsted: The first one – we call it the Rainbow Sweater – uses Blackthorn as the main colour and Silver Birch, Pomegranate, Flax and Raindrop as the contrasts. This one is worked in colourwork motif Option 1. Sophie has also chosen a second colour scheme for this colourwork option which we called "Autumn".

Her second sample, our kit "Berries", features Barley as the main colour and Burdock, Loganberry, Rosebay and Elder as the contrasting colours. It's worked in colourwork motif Option 2.

The kits "Rainbow" and "Autumn" include the yarn amounts needed to work the colourwork Option 1. The kit "Berries" includes the yarn amounts needed to work the colourwork Option 2.

If you're not sure yet which colourwork option you'd like to choose, leave us a note during checkout about how many more minis you'd like and we'll add them to your order. Same goes for colour swaps – you're more than welcome to leave us a note if you'd like to change a colour (or more) for another one!

Yarn Characteristics

Harvest Hues Worsted: With Harvest Hues, we were inspired by the subtle tones of autumn in Devon. Blending the saturated tones of our dyed Falklands Merino and lustrous Bluefaced Leicester with the naturally dark fibre of local Zwartbles, we’ve achieved a range of complex shades with incredible depth of colour. The yarn is woolly and full-bodied, balancing softness, bounce and shine.

33% Bluefaced Leicester / 33% Falklands Merino / 33% Zwartbles

Care Instructions

We recommend that our yarns are gently washed before use as we don't do any washing or conditioning after the yarns are spun and skeined. You'll be amazed by how much the fibre blooms after a soak and it will certainly help you get a more accurate feel for gauge and character of the yarn over time.

If using hand dyed yarn then this step is not necessary, but you may wish to stripe your skeins for colour consistency.

Once your piece is finished, we recommend another hand wash before wet blocking the piece to the given dimensions. This will set all your stitches and guarantee that your garment looks its best.
