The Shruff's End Vest is designed by Thea Colman. Please note that the kit does not include the pattern. You can purchase the pattern in her Ravelry store and on her website.

Thea Colman is the queen of texture and cables, and her Shruff's End Vest is a testament to both! Thea expertly combined a beautiful cable design with a reverse stockinette background and contrasting coloured rib to marvellous effect.

The Shruff's End Vest is the perfect layering piece – we picture it over a shirt, like in Thea's photos, or a long-sleeved Tee. The shorter length combined with a looser silhouette works so well!

Shruff’s End is knit in one piece from the bottom up and separated into into fronts and back at the armhole split. These pieces are then worked separately up to the shoulder and seamed. The button band stitches are then picked up along the opening and worked flat, with buttonholes added. Last, but not least, stitches are picked up around the armholes for some ribbing to finish the vest.

Thea used a combination of our Worsted weight yarns for her sample: The warm brown background colour is Harvest Hues Worsted in Russet, the blue accent colour with brown heathering is Yarnadelic Worsted in Badi Da. We've put together a kit in the original colour combination as well as four more – two in Harvest Hues, and two in Yarnadelic Worsted. (Psst, you might even see one of our new colours make an appearance!)

You're more than welcome to leave us a note if you'd like to change a colour for another one!

Yarn Characteristics

Harvest Hues Worsted: With Harvest Hues, we were inspired by the subtle tones of autumn in Devon. Blending the saturated tones of our dyed Falklands Merino and lustrous Bluefaced Leicester with the naturally dark fibre of local Zwartbles, we’ve achieved a range of complex shades with incredible depth of colour. The yarn is woolly and full-bodied, balancing softness, bounce and shine.

Yarnadelic Worsted: We love a good bop here at John Arbon Textiles, which got us thinking that it would be wonderful to create a yarn range inspired by our eclectic music tastes – from punk to funk! And so, the Yarnadelic palette was born during an evening of good vibes and chilled wine, with each shade conjuring the sentiment of a favourite song. This groovy range of heathered shades is created from 100% Falklands Corriedale fibre, which is the perfect balance of delightful softness, bounce and slight lustre.

Care Instructions

We recommend that our yarns are gently washed before use as we don't do any washing or conditioning after the yarns are spun and skeined. You'll be amazed by how much the fibre blooms after a soak and it will certainly help you get a more accurate feel for gauge and character of the yarn over time.

If using hand dyed yarn then this step is not necessary, but you may wish to stripe your skeins for colour consistency.

Once your piece is finished, we recommend another hand wash before wet blocking the piece to the given dimensions. This will set all your stitches and guarantee that your garment looks its best.
