2025 Mill Open Weekend Specials

We thought we would try something new with this year’s Mill Open Weekend special by making you all honorary Mill Folk and inviting you to help us! We created a series of surveys which allowed you all to give us a hand whipping up those specials: everything from selecting the blend and colour palette, to theme and shade names. And we’re so smitten with how this range, Mineralogy, has turned out; together with your help we’ve created something truly special.

First you chose a soft and lustrous blend of Corriedale, Grey Exmoor Blueface and Romney. It is mostly Corriedale, a gorgeously soft and bouncy fibre, well suited to pretty much anything you might fancy making in it! You chose to blend this Corriedale with soft and lustrous Grey Exmoor Blueface and then to enhance the drape by adding a dash of Romney. The resulting yarn and tops are buttery soft with a gentle handle and warm, woolly character. We’ve accentuated this softness by spinning Mineralogy as a 2-fold, giving it a subtle stitch definition and delicate halo.

We love drawing on the natural world when creating themes for our ranges, so were thrilled when you selected Geology and Minerals as an inspiration for your chosen colour palette. There is so much inspiration to draw from with this theme, from a favourite pebble picked up on a beach , to the cliffs and formations which can be spotted the length and breadth of the UK. In keeping with the theme, we’ve photographed this range, along with a few samples, at Haytor, one of Dartmoor’s most dramatic rock formations.

This limited-edition range will be available at our in-person Mill Open Weekend (7th-8th June) and launch online and with select stockists on the 5th July.

Composition: 75% Corriedale / 17% Grey Exmoor Blueface / 8% Romney

Meet Mineralogy…

Yarn

We’ve spun this yarn up as a 2-fold giving it a wonderfully gentle handle and a lovely soft stitch definition. If you’re looking for inspiration, we’ve worked up some samples which will be available as kits. But we also wanted to let you know that any patterns which work for our Harvest Hues, Knit by Numbers and Devon Naturals 4ply will be a treat in Mineralogy too.

We just adore this harmonious colour palette you’ve chosen! It echoes the Dartmoor setting just perfect and stands out gloriously against all that granite up on Haytor. And the Geology and Minerals names you selected are on point! From left to right below we have Moss Agate, Malachite Magic, Azurite Adventure, Blue Slate, Bog Oak, Carnelian, Alabaster.

Tops

This blend of Corriedale, Grey Exmoor Blueface and Romney is soft and buttery and drafts like a dream. We can’t wait to see what you create with it! When you were designing this range you specifically asked for moody, heathered shades and we certainly did our best to deliver. It can be a little tricky to see all the nuance present in those shades from a photo of the yarn, but as the fibre is not yet spun you can see exactly which shades are present when gazing at the tops.

In their tops form, from left to right below we have Moss Agate, Malachite Magic, Azurite Adventure, Blue Slate, Bog Oak, Carnelian, Alabaster.

Notebook & Shade Cards

In keeping with the Geology and Minerals theme, our fab illustrator, Becca Thorne, created a beautiful lino cut. She’s added fossils and a big beautiful quartz crystal. We were so inspired by her design that we’ve created some beautiful notebooks to accompany the range. They have graph paper – perfect for charts and planning – and are A6, so small enough to pop in a pocket or project bag. Printed in the UK on recycled paper.

We are also offering shade cards for our Mineralogy range, ideal if you would like to have a look at those shades and plan a few projects before the range launches in early July.
