2025 MOW Designs and Kits

We’ve fallen utterly in love with this year’s Mill Open Weekend special, Mineralogy. There was something particularly special about this year’s special (hehehe) – we made all you fine folks at home honorary Mill Folk and invited you to help us design it. Through a series of surveys you selected the blend, colour palette, theme, names and more, and cor blimey have you done a fabulous job! We then spun up the yarn and gilled up oodles of tops and set about creating a few samples based on your chosen theme.

As you selected Geology & Minerals for the theme it seemed only fitting to head up to Dartmoor for the photoshoot. This rugged landscape formed around 300 million years ago from molten magma solidifying into big granite rocks. Over time, the overlying earth has been eroded, shaping the landscape and revealing those famous Tors. We shot on Haytor, which is one of the biggest and most spectacular Tors. It was such a sunny day and we had an absolute blast taking all these snaps.

This gorgeous range you’ve created works up into the most stunning, tactile fabric. We couldn’t be happier with how all these samples have turned out, just ideal for wearing whilst strolling about on the moors – or anywhere else for that matter! And if you’re feeling inspired by these patterns we’ve gathered together, then you’ll be chuffed to know that we’ll have some kits available (so you lovely lot can re-create them at home) once the yarn and tops launch – hurrah!

This limited-edition range will be available at our in-person Mill Open Weekend (7th-8th June) and launch online and with select stockists on the 5th July. Like all our ranges, it will be available in both yarn and fibre tops.

Composition: 75% Corriedale / 17% Grey Exmoor Blueface / 8% Romney
Spec: 4ply – 400m per 100g (2/8nm) / also available as tops

Saltings Sweater by Sarah Solomon

Looking for some ‘wow’ factor? Then this is the sweater kit for you. The Saltings Sweater, knit up here in our gloriously rich, earthy pink Carnelian shade, is an absolute beauty. With all over cables and texture, the pattern is much simpler than it appears at first glance – it is an easy to memorize 4 row repeat which will keep your needles itching to get in just one more row. Sonja has modified her version slightly with a split hem and a folded brim, but we think the original turtle neck is also stunning. Mineralogy lends itself perfectly to showing off these stunning cables and textures.

You’ll be able to find the pattern on Ravelry here. We will have kits available on our website from the 5th July.

Geology Shawl by Very Busy Monkey Designs

Looking for a fun way to show off a couple of skeins of your favourite Mineralogy shade? Donna chose Azurite Adventure to make her Geology Shawl. With a new stitch pattern every few rows, this little shawl is the perfect sampler. Those waves of lace on the edge remind us of gently undulating landscape. Its compact size is also ideal for throwing over your shoulders when you just need a little something to keep the chill off. The yarn shows off this fabulous mix of textured stitches wonderfully. Gorgeous!

The Paul Klee Sweater by Midori Hirose

The Paul Klee Sweater, by Midori Hirose is a beauty of a pattern, we’ve been meaning to make one for years, and doesn’t Martha look glorious in it? We’ve used Alabaster, the undyed, and paired it with every other shade in the range for the colourwork – cor blimey they all play off each other so well. The geometric, checkerboard design certainly reminds us of the structural patterns in quartz and other crystals. With its gentle 2-fold structure, Mineralogy is perfectly suited to colourwork. This garment is seamlessly knitted in the round.

The Geo Top by Soohyun Nam

Ideal for this sunny time of year, the Geo Top is the perfect knit if you want something that will work up quickly. That textural yoke keeps things interesting, whilst there is also lots of soothing stockinette for gentler knitting. We love that Soohyun has added so many sleeve variations to her pattern, choose from short, mid (like Donna’s chosen) or long sleeves. Our Donna loves a mid green so she chose this glorious shade of Mineralogy aptly named Moss Agate. We’d love a tee in every shade available! This garment is seamlessly knitted in the round.

Montana Mountain Cowl by Andrea Mowry

We adore how graphic this mosaic knitting pattern looks worked up in Blue Slate and Malachite Magic. Pair your two favourite shades from the palette and have a blast knitting up this slip stitch wonder. It is the perfect size to slip around your head once and keep your neck toasty and warm if the breeze starts blowing. The cowl is knitted in the round, a twist is added before grafting both ends together.

The Strata Sweater by Hannah Singleton

What a perfect way to show off so many shades of our glorious Mineralogy collection! This stripey stunner is a celebration of summer blues and greens worked up in Moss Agate, Malachite Magic, and Azurite Adventure. We just love the way these three shades harmonise perfectly! This lovely drop shoulder jumper is super easy to wear and is perfect for all year round wear.
