Designing this Year’s MOW Special – Survey #3 Results

You may have noticed that we’re mixing things up for this year’s Mill Open Weekend special by making you all honorary Mill Folk and inviting you to help us! We’re inviting you to give us a hand whipping up those specials, lending a hand picking everything from selecting the blend, to naming the shades. We created a series of surveys to help guide you through the steps. And happily, the results of the third survey are now in. In this survey you added one extra colour to the range (all the options are shown above) and also picked the theme for this special. But first let’s have a bit of a recap of what has been selected already.

For the blend you chose a soft and lustrous blend of Corriedale, Grey Exmoor Blueface and Romney. This special will be majority Corriedale—no surprise there as it’s a gorgeously soft and bouncy fibre. We reckon it’s well suited to pretty much anything you might fancy making in it! You chose to blend the Corriedale with soft and lustrous Grey Exmoor Blueface and then accentuate the drape even more by adding a dash of Romney. Behind the scenes we have done a few test spins and cor blimey it is rather glorious, reckon you’re going to love it!

Composition: 75% Corriedale / 17% Grey Exmoor Blueface / 8% Romney
Spec: 4ply – 400m per 100g / also available as tops

Selecting the Final Colour

So with this 3rd survey you were able to add one final colour to the main palette you selected in the 2nd survey. Take a look at the final results below – it was a close run thing!

Navy blue just pipped it with less than 10 votes in it, super close again. Closely followed by the Periwinkle Blue – you folks sure do love a blue. But how could you not, such a wardrobe staple as just goes with anything – plus it evokes those fab memories of holidays by the seaside. The warmer shades were next up, with poor old Forest Green being the least popular. Take a peek below to view the final colour palette of six shades. When creating the yarn and tops, we will add an undyed, silver grey to this selection too. Think it will work brilliantly with all those cool shades!

Selecting the Theme

In this survey we also asked you to pick the theme. Take a peek below to see the options and which one won.

Unlike the extra colour, there was a clear theme winner right from the start. The majority of you picked Helen’s suggestion of Geology and Minerals. It certainly has our brains ticking over, such a fun theme!

So now we’ve got a little work to do on our end. We need to find some Geology and Mineral themed designs to work up some samples in and let our illustrator Becca know so she can do some concept sketches. And, most important of all, we need to actually spin up the yarn and make the tops to show you – yipeee! It is on the gill boxes already as I type, can’t wait to show you how all those shades have turned out! It’ll be a few weeks until we’re in touch with the next survey.
