Spring has well and truly sprung, with ‘Mint Julep’ our latest, zingy collaboration with Rachael, the talented dyer behind Cat and Sparrow. This delightful shade has been hand dyed on her Superhero DK base that we spin here at our Mill, we are chuffed to bits that Rachael decided to collaborate with us again.
This time Rachael has dyed this limited-edition shade on her Superhero DK base. This stunning blend is one we spin for her right here at the Mill, and is a mix of 35% Romney / 35% Bluefaced Leicester / 30% Falklands Corriedale, perfectly soft, yet oh-so-versatile! Its 3ply construction ensures that it’s bouncy and squishy with plenty of elasticity. Yum! We are thrilled to see it back here at the Mill now, dyed up in all its glory!
Mint Julep just screams ‘Spring’ to us. The fresh feeling of a cool breeze, new vibrant foliage, the first ice creams at the beach, refreshing drinks at the end of a day… all of these vivid images brought to mind a radiant and zesty green, and we love how Rachael took this inspiration and created the lovely Mint Julep. Something we can all be partial to when the sun comes out!
The mix of cool-toned greens and turquoise with the hints of darker teal are so punchy and perfectly encapsulates the feelings of excitement and anticipation at this time of year.
Of course, this isn’t the only base we spin for Rachael. We also create her Rolling Stone Sock, a delicious blend of Romney and Silk, as well as dyeing on our Devonia Tops too! We love a bit of fibre. She’s an utter talent, mastering muted subtle tones, as well as punchy, vibrant hues like our Mint Julep.
Rachael has been spinning and dyeing fibre and yarn since 2012, and loves filling her life with colour and texture. She creates beautiful colour mixes and seeks out fibre blends that makers love to look at, touch and transform. Rachael dyes these in her home studio using non-toxic acid dyes, which produce the most wonderful, rich colours.
We’d love to hear what you think about Mint Julep. We’re planning to make a super-squishy sweater or a cosy hat that really shows off the yarn to it’s full potential. What would you make with a skein or two?
