VMOW Delights – Hand Dyed Yarn & Tops Specials

For our Mill Open Weekend 2025, we’ve also prepared something extra special: Oodles and oodles of hand dyed yarn by our favourite dyers, on our very own or their custom-spun yarn bases! (Not only do we create and produce all our own yarns and tops, but we also commission spin for other woolly folk, as well as sell our undyed yarn bases to independent dyers – and we’re constantly amazed by the colourways they produce.)

We haven’t forgotten us spinners either – scroll down for some very special colourways dyed on Devonia Fibre!

The hand dyed yarns and fibre will launch together with our Mineralogy Yarn, Tops and Kits on the 5th July – perfect timing to throw in a hand dyed skein (or two, or three, or a braid) with your Mineralogy order. We love how each of these dyers has put their own unique spin on our yarn bases and come up with stunners of colourways!

Third Vault Yarns | Harvest Hues 4ply

Left to right: Flaming Tar Barrels | Love Divine | Pixies and Partridges | Wisps on Taw | A Lounge for the Sun and Road to H

Lola of Third Vault Yarns is known for their richly layered, often variegated colourways, inspired by all things geeky (which, well, we are absolutely here for, especially their love for science fiction inspired colours)!

Harvest Hues’ undyed colour is a warm oatmeal which Lola has chosen to pair with deep jewel tones – they just glow on this base! Their colourways are fabulous on their own – and how fabulous would it be to use one (or more) of Lola’s colourways and pair it with one of our own Harvest Hues ones?

Composition: 33% Bluefaced Leicester / 33% Falklands Merino / 33% Zwartbles

Spec: 4ply – 400m per 100g

Telling Yarns | Dark Friends & Night Gathers

Left to right: Vermithor and Thorndril on Dark Friends | My Watch is Ended and You Know Nothing on Night Gathers

Beth of Telling Yarns works wonders with her dyeing – her gorgeous, nuanced colourways are all so stunning, it’s hard to pick a favourite (or two). She’s working exclusively on custom-spun yarns by the Mill Folk, all of which are spun from non-superwash British wool.

Nervus Fibre | Exmoor Sock

Left to right: Tiptoe | Fray | Fae | Viola

For the light and lilac folks – have you seen Charlotte’s concoctions for the MOW yet? The dyer behind Nervus Fibre loves soft, quiet colourways, and they pair so well with our Exmoor Sock base. Perfect for that extra special pair of socks on your feet, or the sock pattern you’ve been wanting to knit for so long!

Composition: 60% Exmoor Blueface / 20% Corriedale / 10% Zwartbles / 10% Nylon

Felt Fusion | Danu & Talamh

Left to right: Spring Has Sprung | Iris | Rainbow | Wintertime Rainbow on Danu

Left to right: Spring Rainbow | Jack Valentine | Bare Necessities | Gruff on Talamh

Shadow, the talented dyer behind Felt Fusion, created the most fun summer colourways on two custom bases, spun up by yours truly! Danu is a lustrous, bouncy blend with a little silk added to it for extra sheen and drape – perfect for shawls and cardis. Talamh was created with socks in mind and works wonderfully for hats and mittens as well.

Christelle of Tricot & Stitch works her magic on Exmoor Sock with a set of colourways inspired by all the makings of a witches’ life – pumpkins, fairy tales, the moon. It might make us feel like we have a bit of a spring in our step when wearing socks made from these colourways!

Cat and Sparrow | Devonia Fibre

Left to right: Hocus Crocus | Scarfell | Fruit Salad | Careless Whisper

Rachael of Cat and Sparrow is not only a fabulous hand dyer of yarn (have you seen her Mint Julep special yet?), but also of fibre for those of us who have fallen deep into the spinning rabbit hole (me, definitely!). Devonia was the first of our blends created from only local fibre, which makes it rather special to us. It’s drapey and lustrous, with just a touch of bounce, and oodles of fun to spin!

Composition: 50% Exmoor Blueface / 30% Bluefaced Leicester / 20% Romney

Spec: 100g, 28 Micron, Soft Handle, Demi Lustre

Phew! That was rather a lot! We just love hand dyers and the magic they create. All of these will be available on the 5th July alongside our very own Mineralogy yarn and tops!
