Hand Dyed Yarn – Felt Fusion
As part of our Mill Open Weekend celebrations, we have curated a glorious selection of hand dyed yarns, showcasing the dyers who use our bases to create their beautiful wares.
Shadow of Felt Fusion uses her custom spun bases made here at the mill to create totally unique and often self-striping yarns, and has outdone herself for our 2025 MOW specials. If you love punchy, happy colourways, you’ll be sure to find one (or more) that you love here!
Shadow has been dyeing for a number of years and is established as a dyer of highly variegated colourways on ethically sourced wool blend yarns. Based in Northamptonshire, she uses her own custom bases which we spin here at the mill – a sock base named Talamh (a blend of Exmoor Blueface, Devon Closewool, Bluefacd Leicester and Nylon) as well as Danu (a blend of BFL, Exmoor Blueface, Romney and Silk).
Visit Shadow’s website to see more of her yummy yarns.
For our 2025 MOW special, Shadow has dyed four colourways on Talamh, her trusted sock yarn: Spring Rainbow, a delightful pastel concoction; Jack Valentine, a celebration of pink with hints of grey; Bare Necessities, a glorious journey into jungle greens, bright reds and yellows; and Gruff, a moody combination of olive green, caramel, and greys. We also have four special colourways on Danu: Spring has Sprung, a peachy, lime green, lilac variegated lover’s dream; Iris, a combination of purple and lilac and light yellow; Rainbow, a happy, strong rainbow of colours; and Wintertime Rainbow, with colder undertones.
Felt Fusion
Shadow’s woolly journey started in 2007, when she needed a creative outlet after being at home for several years, bringing up her 3 boys. After discovering the wonders of wool with woolly nappy covers, she taught herself to knit with the help of a book and knitting friends. The natural progession was then to start dyeing yarn in 2013, and has been steadily developing her dye techniques and bases ever since.
Talamh
Talamh, which is great for socks, along with hats, mittens and anything else you choose, is a blend of Exmoor Blueface for the sturdiness with bounce to put a spring in your step, Devon Closewool for a bit of grip and a touch of lustre, Bluefaced Leicester gives its softness for your toes, and Nylon adds a touch of strength to the yarn to help your socks last a little longer.
Composition: 40% Exmoor Blueface / 20% Devon Closewool / 20% Bluefaced Leicester / 20% Nylon
Yarn Spec: 4ply, 400m per 100g
Danu
Danu 4ply was created with garments such as shawls, scarves, sweaters and cardigans in mind, and blends Bluefaced Leicester for its softness, Romney for lustre, Exmoor Blueface for a little bounce, and silk for a little extra luxury and sheen, and to add a little to the drape.
Composition: 40% Blue Faced Leicester /40% Romney /10% Exmoor Blueface /10% Silk
Yarn Spec: 4ply, 400m per 100g
These yarns are non superwash and need to be washed by hand with care. Every skein is unique as it’s hand dyed, so we recommend striping two skeins together if making a larger project. This also means the skein you receive might look slightly different than on the product photo.
