Hand Dyed Yarn – Telling Yarns
As part of our Mill Open Weekend celebrations, we have curated a glorious selection of hand dyed yarns, showcasing the dyers who use our bases to create their beautiful wares.
We adore working with the brilliant Beth of Telling Yarns, and we are so excited to show off the four gorgeous jewel tones she created for the 2025 MOW special on her Dark Friends and Night Gathers bases, which we custom-spin just for her here in Devon!
From the start of her yarn dyeing journey in 2020, Beth of Telling Yarns has been super thoughtful and intentional in sourcing her yarn, and creating nuanced, layered colourways. She only works with British non-superwash wool, all custom-spun by us Mill Folk, and has created a dyeing process that very slowly heats the yarn and lets it cool overnight to fully exhaust the dye bath, being both environmentally conscious and resulting in incredibly deep colours.
For our 2025 MOW special, Beth has dyed up four different colourways: Vermithor, a warm, nuanced orange, and Thorndril, a stunning purple with hints of burgundy – both on Dark Friends, a light grey-brown base. My Watch is Ended, a deep forest green, and You Know Nothing, a saturated brick red – dyed on Night Gathers, Beth’s dark grey-brown base.

These yarns are non-superwash, so they do best when hand washed at low temperature with mild detergent. Every skein is unique as it’s hand dyed, so we recommend striping two skeins together if making a larger project. This also means the skein you receive might look slightly different than on the product photo.
