Pattern Ideas — Summer Tees!

Just because the weather has warmed up doesn’t mean us knitters put our needles down for the summer – but it does mean we’re looking for knitting pattern ideas along the lines of light, airy tees and tank tops rather than big chunky sweaters! Here are some of our favourite summer patterns that we’ve made or are on our wish lists!
Maranta Tee – Sonja Bargielowska
Sonja made this one way back when (look at the elfin crop!) – a fun knit with different colours front and back featuring a diagonal seam bordered with broken rib. This version is in Harvest Hues Barley and Bramble (replaced with Elder in the new shades). We’d love to see a new version in our updated Harvest Hues 4ply palette – maybe a Burdock and Peat combo for an earthy vibe or Blackthorn and Silver Birch for a more classic look?
![swatch of colour combos: warm grey (Barley) and maroon (Elder), green (burdock) and brown (Peat); dark blue (Blackthorn) and grey (Silver Birch)](https://www.jarbon.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/maranta_colourways-1.jpg)
Achillea – Helena Timms
I made this one when we launched Appledore Lace but having seen some of the projects since I’m tempted to make another! The original sample used Quench and Pig Snout but there are lots of great colour combos in the Appledore range like Sheep’s Nose and Tom Putt for a teal tee or the zingy greens of Whimple Wonder and Golden Knob.
![swatch of colour combos: pastel marled pink (Quench) and salmon pink (Pig Snout), marled light blue-grey (Sheep’s Nose) and teal (Tom Putt); marled grey-green (Whimple Wonder) and bright yellow-green (Golden Knob)](https://www.jarbon.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/colour-combos.jpg)
I also think it would be beautiful in Alpaca Supreme Lace for a super luxe version (Mr Smoke and Pearl, or Morganite and Kyanite for a delicate meadow flower inspired look?)
![swatches: light grey-blue (Mr Smoke) and Pearl; pastel pink (Morganite) and pastel green (Kyanite)](https://www.jarbon.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/achillea_swatch_AS.jpg)
Theia – Fibre Creative (Laine 11)
Ravelry | Laine Website: Issue 11
![a v-neck, short-sleeved top knitted in slip stitch colour work to give a subtle vertical stripe.](https://www.jarbon.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/theia_collage-2.jpg)
This beauty was in an early Laine magazine issue and remains a fixture on many of our wishlists! The original is worked in Alpaca Supreme Sport in Kyanite with a silk mohair contrast but we think it would be great using Alpaca Supreme Lace for the contrast too!
Mixing and matching Yarnadelic Sport with Alpaca Supreme would also be great in this, I’m imagining a moody Badi-Da and Azurite version, or maybe a zingy Wondrous Place and Kyanite one for summer?
![Colour pairings: soft green (kyanite) and dark grey (spinel); turquoise-blue with orange flecks (badi da) and royal blue (azurite); orange (wondrous place) and soft green (kyanite)](https://www.jarbon.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/theia_colourways-1.jpg)
Vaffel Tee – Kari-Helene Rane

The sample of this one is always a firm favourite at shows because of its simple wearable shape with just enough texture to be interesting to knit, who doesn’t love a waffle pattern and a bit of cheeky cable? It’s in Knit By Numbers 4ply in Grape (KBN090), but we think it would look amazing in Denim (KBN82) or Raspberry (KBN130) as well!

Mini Mock Neck Tank/Totally Tank Top – Jessie Maed

Jessie always has so many great summer tank tops to choose from – I’ve knitted one in Exmoor Sock before but think they’d work great in Knit by Numbers 4ply or Yarnadelic Sport too. They’re always very size inclusive and adaptable to what you like in a pattern so a great option for everyone!
I made a stripey version using Quickbeam with skinny Mizzle stripes, but think a Plashes and Dimity combo would look good too! In Knit by Numbers I’d go for a muted Olive (KBN60) or Mustard (KBN 114) for a soft summer look, and in Yarnadelic I’d love a bright Of My Hands or Waltz one for more of a statement.
![swatches: orange and grey (Quickbeam and Mizzle); royal blue and teal (Plashes and Dimity); pastel yellow-green (KBN60); beige (KBN 114); teal (Of My Hands); medium-purple (Waltz)](https://www.jarbon.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/tank_colour_combos.jpg)
Kuutar Tee or Top – Sari Nordlund

![knitted t-shirt, racer-back and sleeveless top all with lace details](https://www.jarbon.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/sari_tops_collage.jpg)
When I’m browsing for summer knitting pattern ideas, Sari Nordlund always has lots of lovely options to choose from, and one of the best loved is the Kuutar top/Tee – available in 2 styles which is super helpful! The lace pattern on this is lovely and quite flattering. I’m thinking a Mr Smoke Alpaca Supreme Sport version for the top, and maybe a Devonia 4ply version for the tee – either Broken Flower or Sage Sprig – so hard to choose!
![swatches: light grey-blue (Mr Smoke); dark salmon (Broken Flower) and dark sage green (Sage Sprig)](https://www.jarbon.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/kuutar_colour_combos.jpg)
I’m also really tempted by the Sunkissed top with its amazing lace panel down the back. I think this would be great in a bright Yarnadelic for some holiday knitting and wearing – I’m thinking maybe Wondrous Place or Sunflowers in My Garden for some extra sunshine?
