This class is part of our Mill Open Weekend celebrations.

Learn the art of visible mending with Molly Rooke from Darn Good Studio.

The visible mending movement is about sharing and celebrating acts of repair. Learn the traditional skill of darning with a contemporary twist, using colourful yarns to accentuate and celebrate your mends. Darning is an incredibly useful skill that doesn’t just apply to socks and knitwear - it can be used across multiple fabrics.

Participants will learn how to darn in a couple of styles on a knitted sampler, with all materials included. You can also bring any items of clothing you’d like some advice on mending as there’ll be time for questions at the end.

Date: Saturday 6th June, 2026
Time: 1.00 pm to 4.00 pm - 3 hours. Please arrive 30 mins before event starts.
Location: The Mayor's Parlour, South Molton Town Hall, EX36 3AB
Price: £55.00 including materials

Skill Level Information: For beginners and / or any skill level, or anyone who wants a refresher on darning. We’ll be covering how to darn a hole in knitwear and all materials will be provided.
What is included? You will receive a visible mending starter kit with hoop, needles and a few threads to keep – additional shades of thread, and a swatch of fabric will be provided during the workshop to practice with. You will also receive a voucher for a beverage of your choosing from the pop-up MOW café.
What do students need to bring? Students can bring along anything they’d like advice on mending, otherwise all materials are provided.
