Devon Naturals 4ply – Hand dyed by RiverKnits

£20.00 per 100g skein

We’re so excited to show off this glorious hand-dyed Devon Naturals yarn! Fully traceable local fibre spun here at our mill in small batches and then dyed by the talented folks at RiverKnits, makes these limited edition beauties rather special indeed…

Our Devon Naturals 4ply is a celebration of our local wool, spun in varying combinations to give a natural gradient. From the moment we skeined off the first few skeins on Gillian, we just knew we had to do something special to honor that magical fibre. And who better than our pals at RiverKnits, to work their magic on them?! They’ve dyed up two glorious gradients, Blossom and Leaves, which enhance the natural gradients perfectly.

Leaves starts with a fresh minty hue and gradually leads to a deep forest green. Whilst Blossom, begins as a pale peachy pink and gives way to a brighter, more punchy shade of tomato. All shades are available separately in 100g skeins, so you can either get the full gradient, or just pick a jumper’s worth of your favourite. We think both gradients would complement each other perfectly for colourwork – why not add in the natural undyed skeins too?

RiverKnits

The tagline at RiverKnits is “hand dyed colour – adventure in the making” and that is exactly what they achieve. Becci and Markus create shades that feel like an adventure in every stitch…

“RiverKnits launched in 2017 after we started hand dyeing yarn at home on our narrowboat. We were moored on the River Nene at the time, which explains the name! After a couple of years, the business outgrew the limited space and we moved it into our beautiful studio in Weedon Bec, Northamptonshire. We’re still enjoying boat life.

We are both knitters and crocheters and we love wool and colour! We enjoy hand dyeing yarn as it gets us up close and personal with the fibre, which has different characteristics depending on the breed of sheep it comes from. Becci also does a bit of knit design for RiverKnits. A definite highlight of our job is visiting local flocks – it’s always a good day if you get a cuddle with a sheep!”

The Blends

This limited edition special has used our mix of Romney and Grey Exmoor Blueface, which has all the woolly bounce and texture you would need for any colourwork project, combined with a soft handle, gentle halo and drape. Endless possibilities!

Gladys – 100% Grey Exmoor Blueface
Gertrude – 50% Grey Exmoor Blueface/50% Romney
Reggie – 20% Grey Exmoor Blueface/80% Romney
Rupert – 100% Romney

This wool is 100% traceable back to farms in the South West, through our local British Wool grading station. We pop along once a year to have a nosy at what is coming in, and see that it meets our high standards of sheepyness and quality.

Care
If using multiple skeins then we recommend alternating skeins to even out any colour variation.
Hand wash at low temperature with mild detergent.
